Texas Mantel Decor

Texas mantel decor says, “howdy y’all!”

Our Texas mantel decor is one of my favorite parts of the new house. We have soaring ceilings in the living area of our home and the fireplace stone goes all the way to the top. The stone used to create the fireplace is the exact stone that is used as an accent on our home’s exterior; Grandbury Chateau. I absolutely adore this stone. It’s a white stone with nice rounded features and a true Hill Country look. It works perfectly with our dark wood floors. Our mantel decor reflects the Texas Hill Country themes we have throughout our home.

We started with a tall blank slate. (I honestly had no idea it had the evidence of all of the fires we enjoyed through the winter. I’m sure there’s a fantastic way to clean this- but I didn’t do it. Maybe I’ll figure that out and share it at a later time).

Decorating a mantel is really just adding layers. It goes in the order you’d expect. Start with the tallest flatter elements in the back. Think of a large triangle… the peak at the center top and gradually tapering down on each side. We started with… what else… Texas Stars.

The next layer sort of framed the stars and are shorter. We used a lantern and a tall open wire vase filled with twig balls.

We added a succulent planter and boot vases on the outside of the lantern and tall open wire vase.

Lastly comes the filler. I have flameless candles, a mason jar, tiny cowboy boots, a sign with a sweet sentiment, and… it’s Texas, y’all… an armadillo.

Of course we’re not finished here. We also have a hearth to add some things to. I started with a beautiful Star themed fireplace screen.

I think this honestly looks beautiful- but under my Texas sky, I always want more. I added some other elements, including a “Count Your Blessings” wooden sign. It’s a great reminder! I also added a nifty antler lamp, a ceramic horse head, my favorite framed pic The Mean Man took on our vacation to the Smokey Mountains, and the little box you see holds the ashes of my sweet little Yorkie, Bailey who is forever in my heart (and on my hearth).

Your mantel, much like a gallery wall, can tell your story. It should incorporate different layers and levels, but mostly contain things that you love.
