Home Tour

Home in the CountrySo we kind of did it all backwards; our nest emptied, and we bought a bigger home.

I love having the opportunity to give y’all a home tour. We raised our girls in the same town in which I grew up- only in a part of the city that was all pastures and scary ghost stories when I grew up (oh and some pretty big ranch-style homes of my more affluent friends- you know the banker’s kids and such). Ours was a lovely little 1620 sq ft 3/2/2 with in ground pool, formal living and dining, etc… the optimum word here is “little,” however it didn’t feel so small when it was just the four of us. We were THE spot for all the kids to hang out and watch movies, college football and basketball, cheerleading tryouts practices, pool parties, etc. The house was really perfect for mom and dad to hang out in the den while all those kiddos were in the formal living- all I had to do was lean back a little over the sofa arm and I could see everything they were doing. Perfect!

So after those middle school and high school parties gave way to the girls going off to college, that house was still plenty of space for The Mean Man and myself; it just needed some updating. You can find our kitchen remodel here. It turned out beautifully and I loved it. Then my youngest daughter, who had been married for a couple of years, told us she was going to have a baby, and suddenly, that house could not accommodate the entire family. This is in light of the fact that BOTH girls live in other states and thus our house is not just home, but a hotel when they visit (which is often times at the same time). One guest room couldn’t cut it. So on March 25 we started looking for a new house. We’d seen several; a few I really liked. Then I walked into the entry of a house, and knew it was THE house. Luckily, the rest of the house was, in fact, perfect for us. The number of rooms included an office for the Mean Man, a nursery right next to Courtney and Mike’s bedroom, and down the hall, another bedroom for Ashten.

Alfreda- Thank so much! I love working in it. I’m not sure if you saw how we transferred the craft room from our home tour to our current 1901 Victorian. Check out our Yellow Rose tab if not. All of the same furnishings worked perfectly here too! Thanks for stopping by to say hi. Blessings- Kelly
