The backyard is many times out of sight out of mind. Don’t let this usable space go to waste! You can transform your backyard and add additional living space to your home. This doesn’t have to break the bank. There are several small changes you can make that will turn your backyard into a place for friends and family to gather. It’s also a great place for contemplation or relaxing. Let’s talk about ways your backyard can make your life better.

 Boost Your Happiness

Scientific studies have proven that merely being outdoors in nature, and listening to the sounds of birds and insects, is beneficial to our mental health, increasing happiness and optimism. Adding a comfortable sitting area in your backyard gives you a place to take in the calming effects of nature. Do yourself a favor and start drinking your morning coffee outside. It’s a peaceful way to start your day.

Then end of some days outside for your evening meal. Preparing a meal on a BBQGuys grill gives you the benefits of being outside while having enjoying dinner. Add some pretty string lights and you’ll create an atmosphere that’s hard to beat. Bring your music outside and you’ve turned your yard into an oasis.

Create memories

Spending time outside gives the opportunity for you to work on your physical health. Grab some corn hole boards and have friend over for a few rounds. It’s not taxing physical activity, but you’ll feel the effects in your arms and legs the next day. Plus you’ll have a great time while doing it.

There are lots of nostalgic games that have been upsized to be played in your yard. A giant Connect Four game can be enjoyed by kids and adults alike. How about tossing yard sized Yahtzee dice while playing with the kids? There are no better memories for your children than spending time with their parents. Create a space where you can play outside with them, making memories that will last a lifetime.

Plant a garden

Even a small yard can be big enough to add a vegetable garden. A raised bed garden can be as small as only a few feet square. Imagine being able to harvest fresh herbs for your meals. Adding your own home grown peppers, tomatoes, and onions is truly possible by accessing an area of your yard. A small greenhouse is a great addition if you live in colder climates. A greenhouse is a great place to propagate lovely flowers for your home’s landscaping and to start the veggies you’ll want to transplant into your garden area.

You may find that spending time in your yard tending to it, growing the right plants, adding additional living areas, and creating memories  just may transform your life.

Don’t discount your yard as just a place the dogs like to play. Make it special.
