Transform Your Backyard

The backyard is many times out of sight out of mind. Don’t let this usable space go to waste! You can transform your backyard and add additional living space to your home. This doesn’t have to break the bank. There are several small changes you can make that will turn your backyard into a place for friends and family to gather.

Clean it up

You don’t have to bring in a professional landscaper to make changes to your backyard. The most important thing is to get the area cleaned up and cleared away. Making room for a patio type area can usually exist of simply clearing debris, weeds, and clutter away. Mark out a rectangle and fill the space with pea gravel. Add a few large paving stones and you’ve got a spot for patio furniture, lawn chairs, or fire pit.

Trim bushes around the fenceline and spruce up your fencing. A good power washing can bring an old concrete patio back to life. It may a little late to try to save the lawn, but you can still pull weeds and add some pretty potted flowers around to add beauty.

Even plastic outdoor furniture can be painted with the right paint. Don’t just look at an old piece of furniture and thing it’s trash. Imagine what it can become.

You can grab pallets for free from lots of companies, you just need to ask. Pallets can be transformed into a great outdoor bar with some modifications and a few concrete pavers. Stools and even couches can be created from wood pallets. Grab some pallets and check out YouTube for ideas.

Create an outdoor cinema 

If you want really make it special, you could create your own outdoor cinema. This is a great budget idea that doesn’t take much time to set up and gives you and your family a unique, fun, and cozy way to spend your summer evenings together. Just add blankets and pillows to the outdoor furniture you upcycled, hang some fairy lights and grab your laptop with your favorite streaming service. You will need to purchase a small projector, but they’ve become very affordable. Add some bluetooth speakers so you can clearly hear the dialogue and you’re at the movies! 

Watching movies outdoors with your children will instill memories that will last a lifetime.
